Congrats to 1 of the best dudes in the biz! Repost @greeramps・・・17 years…today marks 17 years. 17 years ago, I was sitting in my parents’ house, trying to figure out why my pedal was broken. I sat there & explored the circuit, & quickly came to realize that my orange brick was just that…a brick. The chip had failed, & I needed to play a show in 3 days. At that point, there was no place in Tifton, GA to buy a new pedal, & I didn’t have the money to do so. So…after looking through some electronics books in the house, I made a trip to an electronics store, & came back. I sat down, & built the first Black Fuzz. I really & truly never meant to start a business…but, a few days later, I had a friend wanting one. Then another friend, then another. After that, I decided I needed a clean boost that would fatten my strat…the Sonic Boom was born. I received a phone call after setting up a janky little website, & a guy in North Carolina (who I consider to be one of my best friends now) asked me about a pedal he had found. I spent countless hours on my dad’s pool table, wiring circuits with twist lock wiring, painting enclosures, and sending pedals out after that. It’s strange to think that it’s been 17 years. In 17 years I’ve learned a lot of things. I’ve learned that sometimes a capacitor of a different type or a resistor of a different type CAN, AND DOES make a difference in a circuit. I’ve learned that some circuits will misbehave with minor changes…& I’ve learned to engineer. I did two internships to gain the knowledge that started this all, & read a multitude of books, datasheets, & manuals…all to come to one conclusion. The best way to design is a simple one, & it’s what we use on a daily basis. DESIGN TO THE SOUND YOU WANT…make the numbers work after you get there, then make sure it’s road worthy before you release it. That’s what I was taught by Gar Gillies…& that’s what I’ll always do. I’m thankful for these 17 years, all the experiences, all the stress and worry, & all of the hard work has been worth it. I look forward to the years to come, & the new designs that will fall out of my head.THANK YOU to our customers for 17 wonderful years!
