Part of the James Ross Signature Series, the IP903 Dark mallets produce a heavy, pure tone with very little contact sound and a huge, deep character in the middle and lower registers of the xylophone. They’re a favorite for repertoire that calls for weight and depth rather than bite—think Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 or Orff’s Carmina Burana—though their added weight means they reward players with the control to back off when a passage calls for it.
