At Town Center Music, we have watched the 314ce become the benchmark for professional-grade acoustic guitars over the last three decades. However, the Taylor Next Generation 314ce isn't just a minor update—it is a complete tonal evolution. The flagship of the 300 Series has been elevated with a torrefied Sitka spruce top and Taylor’s award-winning V-Class bracing, resulting in a Grand Auditorium that offers more depth, more sustain, and a more "played-in" character than ever before.
Whether you are a fingerstyle player seeking nuance or a flatpicker needing projection, the Next Gen 314ce is designed to be the only acoustic you’ll ever need. It’s the ultimate expression of Taylor’s commitment to innovation, playability, and sustainable craftsmanship.

The standout feature of the Next Generation 314ce is the torrefied solid Sitka spruce top. Torrefaction is a specialized roasting process that mimics the cellular changes wood undergoes during decades of natural aging. By removing moisture and volatiles from the wood, Taylor has "pre-aged" the top, giving it the sweet, responsive, and harmonically rich character of a vintage guitar from the mid-20th century.
This aged spruce is paired with solid Sapele back and sides. Sapele is often compared to mahogany but offers a slightly brighter "shimmer" on the top end and a punchy, focused midrange. This tonewood combination, enhanced by the torrefaction process, ensures that the 314ce delivers a balanced, versatile voice that records beautifully and cuts through a live mix with ease.
Under the hood, the Next Gen 314ce features Taylor’s groundbreaking V-Class bracing. Traditional X-bracing has a fundamental conflict: to get more volume, the top needs to be flexible; to get more sustain, the top needs to be stiff. V-Class solves this by providing a stiff center for sustain while allowing the sides of the top to vibrate for volume.
Beyond sustain, V-Class bracing drastically improves the guitar's intonation. Notes ring out truer to one another across the entire fretboard, eliminating the "beating" or sourness often found in the upper registers of acoustic guitars. When you play a barre chord high up the neck on the 314ce, the notes are perfectly in tune with each other, making it an essential tool for professional recording and precision playing.

The 314ce utilizes Taylor's signature Grand Auditorium (GA) body shape. Developed by Bob Taylor in 1994, the GA is a "Goldilocks" design—not as bulky as a dreadnought, but with more power and low-end than a concert-sized guitar. Its tapered waist makes it incredibly comfortable to play while seated, and the Venetian cutaway provides easy access to the upper frets for lead lines or complex chord voicings.
The West African Crelicam Ebony fretboard and bridge offer a smooth, luxurious playing surface. Because Taylor owns the ebony mill in Cameroon, you can be certain that the wood on your 314ce is sourced ethically and sustainably, ensuring this guitar is as good for the planet as it is for your music.
For the Next Generation 314ce, Taylor has introduced a significant evolution in amplified performance: the Claria Pickup System. Developed through years of collaboration with touring professionals and live sound engineers, Claria represents a shift toward effortless, "plug-and-play" consistency. Unlike the previous ES2, the Claria system utilizes a reimagined under-saddle design paired with a sophisticated, high-headroom preamp specifically engineered to eliminate the harsh "quack" and brittle transients often associated with traditional piezo pickups.
The result is a warm, organic, and incredibly full-bodied amplified tone that sounds like a studio-quality recording of your guitar. To keep the aesthetic of the 314ce clean and traditional, the controls are discreetly soundhole-mounted. With intuitive dials for Volume, Tone, and Mid Contour, you can shape your sound in seconds. The Mid Contour control is particularly powerful, allowing you to sweep from a lush, scooped rhythm sound to a mid-forward lead tone that cuts through a full band. Whether you’re plugging directly into a PA at a Suwanee coffee shop or a high-end interface in the studio, the Claria system ensures you spend less time tweaking and more time playing.
