The Acorn Amps Piccolo Delay is a vintage-style delay pedal from Acorn Amplifiers of Atlanta, Georgia. With 325ms of delay time, it covers everything from quick slapback to longer, more spacious repeats, and those repeats come out warm, lush, and organic. Three simple controls make it easy to dial in a delay sound quickly, whether you're a first-time delay user or an experienced player who wants a straightforward echo on your pedalboard.
The Piccolo pairs a vintage-style delay approach with modern circuitry. Your signal passes through an analog-to-digital converter, into a digital memory, and back out through a digital-to-analog converter, which is how it creates warm, lush repeats. An 18V charge pump inside the pedal raises the internal operating voltage, yet the pedal still runs from a standard 9V supply, so you don't need any special power equipment.
Slapback is a staple of rockabilly, country, and blues, and the Piccolo gets there with one turn of the Time knob. Longer repeats add depth to clean passages, lead lines, and ambient playing, while pushing Repeats to maximum creates runaway delay for swells and experimental textures. Because it keeps things to three controls, it's also a good first delay for players who feel overwhelmed by menu-driven digital pedals.
To be straightforward about what it isn't: with a 325ms maximum delay and three controls, the Piccolo is a simple, great-sounding delay, not a feature-packed multi-mode unit. If you need multi-second delay times, presets, or an array of delay types, look at a larger pedal. If you want warm, usable echo with minimal fuss, this is exactly the right tool.
A delay under half a second is more useful than it may sound. For slapback, set Time low, keep Repeats near the minimum for a single echo, and bring Blend up until the repeat sits just behind your playing. For longer, more spacious echoes on solos, raise Time and Repeats together and keep Blend moderate so the repeats support your notes instead of burying them. For ambient swells, turn Repeats up toward runaway and ride Blend while you play. Because the Piccolo has only three controls, small adjustments make audible differences, which makes it easy to learn how each knob shapes the sound.
In most signal chains, delay sits after overdrive, distortion, and fuzz pedals so the repeats stay clean and defined, and before reverb if you use one. If your amp has an effects loop, running the delay there keeps the repeats clear even when you're playing with a lot of gain.
How much delay time does the Piccolo Delay have? 325ms, enough for slapback through longer, spacious repeats.
Is it analog or digital? It uses a vintage-style delay approach with modern circuitry. The signal goes through an analog-to-digital converter, a digital memory, and a digital-to-analog converter.
Can I get self-oscillating, runaway repeats? Yes. Turn the Repeats knob all the way up for continuous runaway delay.
What power does it need? Standard 9VDC center-negative pedal power, with a current draw of less than 100mA. If you're unsure whether your power supply can handle it, our team is happy to help.
